New South Africa: Cape Town Not African Enough?

Description: African National Congress (ANC) leader Richard Dyantyi, signalled his intention to introduce the executive mayoral committee system into Cape Town. This would take away power from the Democratic Alliance in Cape Town in favour of the ANC. The blacks within Cape Town feel the Democratic Alliance is only looking after white interests, while both whites and coloureds fear that they will soon be swamped with a poor black majority entering the city in search of a better life. CapeTownians or Capetonians (whichever you prefer) are being accused of being racist and not opening up Cape Town to the black majority. Cape Town is not african enough, in other words, Cape Town is not black enough is the current perception of the ruling ANC. Let's not get carried away, Cape Town is home to predominately whites and coloureds so there always has been a level of acceptance of cultures. Cape Town was generally thought of as white because the English flocked to the city in large numbers where they in a way separated themeselves from the afrikaners. But to label the city racist when it was one of the first cities to welcome the changes in the 1990s is to do an injustice to history. It is to rewrite history in favour of the ANC.
