Description: MY OPINION: There's nothing more I like than an early Argento giallo. With it's style and great story line, I am surprised to know that this is Argento's first film. It contains all the elements of an Argento film; nice music (even without the Goblin score), stylish black-gloved killer, great suspence, and some gore. All these things are toned down a knotch, compared to his other films. So, I would say this is a great movie for getting introduced to Argento. It doesn't have Argento's trademark brutal and stylish murder to a "rock-like" soundtrack, but the deaths had more suspence to them. This is definatley one of my favorite movies, and I hope you enjoyed! An American writer traveling in Rome is the only witness to an attempted murder by a sinister man in a raincoat and black leather gloves, though he is powerless to do anything to stop him. With a feeling that something is not quite right about the scene he has witnessed and the police's inability to make any progress, he launches his own personal investigation -- and nearly loses his life in the process. While this modern day Jack-the-Ripper type is slithering through the dark byways of Rome slicing up pretty girls, director Dario Argento is carving up the emotions of terrified viewers. Dark deeds are mixed with black comedy worthy of Hitchcock in a film of almost unbearable tension and nail-biting suspense.

I would also reccomend anyone who loved this to read the novel on which the film is loosely based, "The screaming Mimi" from Fredric Brown, I read it after having seen the movie and it's terrific.
